Our Fees, Published Plainly

We list our chiropractic and massage fees openly so you can plan with confidence. Your initial visit costs a little more than a follow-up because it includes a full assessment. With HICAPS at the desk, most patients with extras cover pay only the gap on the day.

Cost should never be the reason you put off getting help, and it certainly should not be a mystery you only solve at the counter. That is why we set our prices out here in full. Whether you are booking a first chiropractic assessment, a regular adjustment, or a remedial massage, you can see what to expect before you arrive, and if anything about the fees is unclear, our reception team is glad to talk it through on the phone.

Please note. The figures above are indicative placeholders while this page is finalised; the current fee schedule is confirmed at the time of booking and displayed at reception. Fees are reviewed periodically. If you would like exact figures before you book, phone the front desk on (02) 6288 6711 and we will run through them with you.

You will notice the first appointment carries a slightly higher fee than the visits that follow. That reflects the extra time it takes to listen to your history, examine you properly and explain what we have found, rather than any hidden add-on. From your second visit on, the standard fee applies, and concession rates are available for pensioners and eligible card holders. For a sense of how our pricing sits against the rest of the country, our national cost guide puts Canberra figures in context.

How Much Does a Chiropractor Cost in Canberra?

A chiropractor in Canberra typically charges more for an initial visit, which includes assessment, than for later standard visits. Our fees are listed in full on this page. With private extras cover, HICAPS settles most of the fee at the desk, so your real out-of-pocket cost is only the gap.

The honest answer to what a chiropractor costs is that it depends on two things: the type of appointment, and whether you hold private health cover. The first visit is longer and more detailed because it involves taking your history, carrying out a physical examination, and talking you through the findings and a plan; naturally it costs a little more than the shorter, focused sessions that follow. Our exact figures for each appointment type are set out in the table above, updated as fees are reviewed.

The number that actually matters to most people, though, is the gap, what you pay after your health fund has done its part. If you have extras cover that includes chiropractic, our HICAPS terminal claims your rebate on the spot, and you settle only the difference. That can bring the real cost of a visit down substantially, and because the rebate is applied immediately, you are never left out of pocket waiting for a refund to come through.

We keep our pricing deliberately simple: an initial fee, a standard follow-up fee, and a concession rate for pensioners and eligible card holders. There are no membership lock-ins, no obligation to buy a block of sessions, and no pressure to keep coming back longer than your body needs. You pay for the care you receive, visit by visit, and we will always be upfront about how many visits we think a problem is likely to need.

It is also worth saying that a lower fee is not the same as better value, and a higher one is no guarantee of it. What you are really paying for is the practitioner's time, training and judgement, an accurate assessment, hands that know what they are doing, and honest advice about whether chiropractic is even the right answer for your problem. We would rather tell you a handful of visits should sort things out, or that you would be better served by your GP or a physiotherapist, than sign you up to an open-ended plan. That candour is part of what your fee buys, and it is why so many Canberra families have stayed with us across the decades.

How Much Does Remedial Massage Cost?

Remedial massage is usually priced by session length, commonly 30, 45 or 60 minutes, with the exact fees listed on this page. If your extras policy covers remedial massage, you can claim on the spot through HICAPS and pay only the gap; pure relaxation massage is not rebatable.

Remedial massage is charged according to how long you book. A shorter session suits a single, specific problem area, while a longer one gives the therapist time to work through several regions or a more stubborn issue at an unhurried pace. Our current rates for each length appear in the fee table near the top of this page, and reception can confirm them for you when you call.

As with chiropractic, the figure most people care about is the gap after their rebate. Where your private extras policy includes remedial massage, our therapists are accredited to claim through HICAPS, so the rebate comes off at the desk and you pay only what is left. It is worth knowing that funds apply this to remedial massage specifically, treatment aimed at a musculoskeletal problem, rather than to purely relaxation-focused massage, which they class as general wellbeing and do not rebate.

Claiming made simple

How HICAPS On-the-Spot Claiming Works

HICAPS lets you claim your private health rebate instantly at our front desk. You swipe your fund membership card, the rebate is deducted from the fee straight away, and you pay only the remaining gap. There is no paper claim to lodge and no waiting for a refund.

HICAPS is the same swipe-and-claim system you will have used at the dentist or the optometrist, and it takes the friction out of paying for care. At the end of your appointment you simply hand over your health-fund membership card, our terminal talks to your fund in seconds, and whatever rebate you are entitled to is taken straight off the bill. You settle the small remaining gap by card, and you are on your way.

The advantage is more than convenience. Because the rebate applies immediately, you never front the full fee and then chase your fund for money back later. You always know your real out-of-pocket cost on the day, which makes budgeting for ongoing care far easier. If your rebate does not fully cover the fee, the terminal shows the exact gap before anything is charged, so there are never any surprises.

It is worth remembering that your extras cover renews each year, usually on 1 January or on your policy anniversary, with a fresh annual limit for chiropractic and massage. If you have room left in this year's limit, it does not carry over, so booking in before it resets can be a sensible way to make the most of cover you have already paid for. Our reception team can swipe your card at any visit to show how much of your limit remains, so you can plan the rest of your care accordingly.

All you need to bring is your current health-fund card, and if you are a new patient, a little extra time to complete your details. Our reception team handles the rest. If you would like to understand how rebates and annual limits work in more depth, our guide to rebates explained walks through the finer points, and your new patient information page covers what to bring to a first visit.

Cover and rebates

Which Health Funds Cover Chiropractic and Massage?

Most major Australian health funds include chiropractic and remedial massage in their extras cover, and our HICAPS terminal claims from all of them. The rebate you receive depends on your fund, your level of extras and your remaining annual limit, so it is worth checking your own policy.

The great majority of private health funds in Australia, the large national names and the smaller and restricted funds alike, offer chiropractic and remedial massage as part of their extras or ancillary cover. Because our practitioners are registered and accredited providers, and because HICAPS connects to every participating fund, you can claim regardless of which fund you are with. In practice, if you have extras cover that lists chiropractic or remedial massage, you can almost certainly claim with us at the desk.

What varies is not whether you can claim, but how much you get back. That comes down to three things: which fund you belong to, the level of extras you have chosen, and how much of your annual limit for that service you have already used. Some policies rebate a fixed dollar amount per visit, others a percentage of the fee, and every policy caps the total it will pay in a year. Those are decisions your fund makes, not us, so the surest way to know your exact rebate is to check your policy or ask your fund directly.

If you are not certain what your cover includes, a quick call to your fund's member line before your appointment will settle it, and our reception team is always happy to swipe your card and show you the rebate the terminal returns. There is no cost or commitment in finding out; you can see your gap for a given service and decide from there.

The honest position

Is Massage or Chiropractic Covered by Medicare?

Medicare does not routinely cover chiropractic or massage for everyday care; that sits with your private extras cover. Medicare may contribute only in specific cases, such as an eligible chronic condition managed under a GP care plan. For most patients, private health extras and HICAPS are the relevant path.

It is a fair and common question, and the straightforward answer is that Medicare does not fund routine chiropractic or massage the way it funds a visit to your GP. For most people, day-to-day care is covered through private health extras rather than Medicare, which is exactly why the HICAPS and health-fund side of things matters so much and takes up most of this page.

There is one limited exception worth knowing about. Where a patient has an eligible chronic and complex condition, a GP may prepare a care plan that includes a set number of subsidised allied-health visits in a calendar year, and chiropractic can sometimes fall within that. These arrangements are strictly defined by Medicare, decided and initiated by your GP rather than by us, and typically cover only a small number of visits with a set rebate. They are the exception, not the norm.

Because the rules are specific and change from time to time, we will not guess at your eligibility. If you think a GP care plan might apply to you, the right first step is a conversation with your general practitioner, who can assess whether you qualify and arrange the referral. For everyone else, private extras cover claimed on the spot through HICAPS is the simple, everyday way to reduce what you pay.

Veterans welcome

DVA Patients: What Is Covered

We welcome Department of Veterans' Affairs patients. With a valid DVA card and a current GP referral, eligible chiropractic care is covered by DVA at no cost to you. You bring your card and referral, and we bill the department directly, so there is nothing to claim yourself.

Canberra has a large veteran community, and we are proud to care for DVA card holders. If you hold a Gold Card, your eligible clinically necessary chiropractic care is generally covered; White Card holders are covered for conditions accepted by the department. In both cases, when the care is approved and referred, DVA pays us directly, so you are not out of pocket for your visits and there is no rebate for you to chase.

The process runs through your GP. Your doctor provides a referral for chiropractic care, and that referral, together with your DVA card, is what lets us treat and bill under the scheme. Referrals run for a set period and number of visits before they need renewing, and we will keep an eye on that with you so your care is never interrupted by paperwork. Our full DVA chiropractic page walks through the details, including the gentle, low-force options many older veterans prefer.

If you are a veteran considering care and are unsure whether you are eligible or how to get a referral, phone the front desk and we will explain exactly what to bring and how the billing works. It is a straightforward path once it is set up, and our reception team handles the DVA side so you can focus on getting better rather than on forms.

The practical details

Payment, Cancellations and Care Plans

Payment is due at the end of each visit, and after your health-fund rebate is applied at the desk you simply settle the gap. We accept card payments, including tap and mobile wallets, and our terminal handles HICAPS and DVA billing in the same step. There is no need to pay in advance or commit to a package; you are charged for each appointment as you have it.

We ask for reasonable notice if you need to change or cancel an appointment, as a rule at least a full working day, so we can offer the time to someone else who needs it. A courtesy reminder is sent ahead of your visit to help you keep track. Life happens, and we are understanding about genuine emergencies, but repeated late cancellations may attract a fee, which we will always explain clearly beforehand rather than spring on you.

When your problem is likely to need more than one visit, we will talk you through a suggested plan of care, how many visits we anticipate, spaced how far apart, and why. That plan is a recommendation, not a contract: you are free to stop at any time, and we will happily reassess if things change faster or slower than expected. Our aim is always to get you feeling better in as few visits as the problem sensibly allows, and to be honest with you about progress at every step.

If your circumstances make paying difficult, or you simply want the numbers clear before you commit, please just ask. We would far rather have an open conversation about cost at the start than have someone avoid the care they need because they were unsure what it would come to. Between published fees, on-the-spot HICAPS claiming, concession rates and direct DVA billing, there is usually a straightforward path to getting looked after, and reception can help you find the one that fits your situation.
